The Elite-sponsored Helpline for victims of human trafficking wins prizes
Last June, the very first Helpline for victims of human trafficking in Switzerland was launched, accompanied by a large awareness raising campaign in public transport and on the streets of Geneva. During the first five months of activity the helpline staff has assisted 16 cases of probable victims in Geneva, a number that far exceeds any official statistic (an average of 5 per year for the years 2000-2005).
This novelty of this young project has already been rewarded by two separate organizations: Philias and Ashoka.
Philias, a foundation that promotes corporate social responsibility, held its annual event Humagora on early November 2008, which consists in platform of exchange between actors of the private sector and non-profit organizations. Each year, Philias awards a prize to a project presenting a remarkable partnership between a non-profit organisation and a company. This year, the partnership that made the Helpline possible received the Jury’s Special Prize as recognition of its innovative approach in funding: the project was launched with the support of many small and mid-sized companies, who are committed to contributing to the community they are set in. Elite Rent-a-Car and Graziella Zanoletti played a crucial role in mobilising suppliers such as Eurocall or Locatelli, as well as friends' businesses (like Eurovestech). All the companies received a certificate of the prize as recognition of their involvement.
Last September, the helpline was also chosen by Ashoka France for its annual Concours Impact. The helpline as well as nine other projects were selected among 300 other candidates for its innovative approach and high social impact. The prize includes nine days of training as well as three months of follow up by a McKinsey consultant in the elaboration of a three-year social business plan for the project.
To continue answering the calls of victims of human trafficking in Geneva and Switzerland, and to help them rebuild a dignified life, we need your support.
