About Eze
Eze is a small town not far from Nice, which dates back to the Middle Ages. It neighbours the fascinating resort of Monaco and is situated on an extremely beautiful mountain road.
The city is nestled at 427 metres above sea level and sprawls all the way down to the seaside. Its amazing bird’s eye views on the French Riviera make it a unique must-see destination. Both Friedrich Nietzsche and Walt Disney loved to spend time in Eze. Here, untouched nature coexists peacefully with the developed infrastructure of the town. Small sandy beaches and the shade of green cedar groves are complemented by cosy apartments and luxurious modern villas, built in an exquisite architectural style.
What to do in Eze
The hill is so high that the light ochre church of Eze (Notre Dame de l’Assomption) built in 1764 can be seen from afar. The Egyptian cross inside the church points to the ancient roots of the village when the Phoenicians erected a temple on the site in honour of the goddess Isis.
Climbing up the winding alleys, you will find yourself in a medieval town that retains the charm of the villages of Southern France. The Garden of Eze, built on the ruins of a castle, offers an unforgettable view of the French Riviera from the up high. Plants, dominated by cacti, cascade down towards the sea. The garden pathways are dotted with information about Eze’s artistic and historical heritage, giving the visitor a real feel for the past of this exceptional site.
Hike the Nietzsche Trail, which connects the three levels of the town. This path inspired the philosopher to write his famous work “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”.
You should see one of the town’s most famous landmarks – Double Gate, built seven centuries ago. The massive Gate leads to the town, symbolising it’s history.
The other must-see historical building is the Riquier residence. The mansion is stunning with its grand old architecture and sumptuous fountains.
Park your luxury rental car and start hiking, inspiration, and magnificent views are waiting for you.
