About Antibes
Antibes is a little city located in the heart of the French Riviera between Nice and Cannes. It is one of the most popular local destinations, and also known as the city of delights or the city of Picasso. Nowhere in Europe can you find more expensive villas and yachts than in this jewel of the southern French coast.
Antibes has always been much loved by prominent people, from King Nicholas I of Montenegro to actor Tom Cruise. Other famous names associated with it include Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Victor Hugo, Guy de Maupassant, Flaubert, Claude Monet, Renoir, Picasso. Writers and artists came here for inspiration. Rarely you can find such a combination of ancient stones, luxurious beaches, and pine-scented air.
What to do in Antibes
When in Antibes walk in the old quarters. The best way to get there is passing the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Visit The Grimaldi Castle, topped by a square Romanesque tower (13th century) that became the town’s main landmark, now turned into a museum. The artist Pablo Picasso lived in the palace in 1946 and in gratitude donated 150 canvases, lithographs, drawings, and ceramics to the city These donations formed the basis of museum’s collection.
From Grimaldi Castle, turn left towards the Orme Gate. These huge, sturdy doors once closed the entrance to the medieval town.
Going further afield, you’ll find yourself next to the Museum of History and Archaeology, which displays artefacts from numerous land and underwater archaeological expeditions.
Marineland Marine Park will bring you a lot of joy with its displays of the life of sea inhabitants. There are dolphins, sharks, tropical fish scurrying through the coral, seahorses and other fascinating creatures normally hidden in the sea’s depths.
Little Antibes has five seaports: Gallis, Crouton, Salis, Olivette and the port of Vauban, guarded by the Square Fort, the largest, most famous and probably the most beautiful. Here you can see magnificent yachts – those rapturous giants on which not only the seas but also the oceans can be crossed. This cluster of floating luxury is called the “billionaires’ promenade”.
Luxury car, luxury life, luxury destination.
