About Mandelieu Airport
Cannes Mandelieu Airport in France is located by the sea between of the two communes of Cannes and Mandelieu.
Built in 1930 it was the first airport in Cannes to offer regular passenger flights. The construction of the airport was privately financed, but in 1937 it was handed over to the State.
The Cannes Mandelieu airport suffered destruction during the Second World War, after which airport complex was rebuilt, and an 1100-metre-long runway was constructed. It was at this time that it received its present name. For many years Air France operated regular flights here and the Manadelieu was the only passenger air hub in Cannes.
However, with time Mandelieu lacked sufficient capacity – large planes and cargo ships could not land due to the local landscape, mountains’ proximity and not enough territory. As a result – the need to build a new modern complex became acute. The international Nice Airport, officially known as Nice Côte d’Azur Airport became the main hub.
Gradually, all scheduled civil aviation flights were moved to the new airport, and Cannes Mandelieu was used exclusively for private aviation.
Today, Mandelieu Airport welcomes small private planes and helicopters, and its facilities are rented out for advertising and other business ventures. There are no regular flights, so you won’t find the usual online board, schedule, or ticket office. Each incoming and outgoing flight is individually coordinated.
