The most well-known landmark of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is the majestic Villa Les Cèdres owned by King Leopold II of Belgium. It has 14 bedrooms, a library holding 3000 books, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a bronze statue of the goddess Athena and much more. The Villa has been declared the most expensive in the world, is now under the protection of the French state as a historic and cultural monument.
A nice way to admire the beauty of Cap-Ferrat is to walk along one of the public paths. The most scenic of these runs from Paloma Beach to Pointe St-Hospice, which offers a panoramic view of the French Riviera. On the way you will also come across the Saint Hospice Chapel which was built in the 11th century on the ruins of a sanctuary. It’s listed as a national heritage site since 1929. In 1900, an 11-metre bronze sculpture of the Virgin Mary by Italian sculptor Tranquilo Galbuzzieri, known as the “Black Madonna”, was installed next to the chapel.
On the highest point of Cap Ferrat you will see The Grand Hotel Palace, a fine example of Belle Epoque architecture situated in a magnificent park.
